Wherever you find yourself, you are there for a purpose and for a while. Whatsoever you are doing, it is for a while and God is watching. A time is coming that you will not be in your present location or position; either by way of relocation, promotion or by any other means. Change is inevitable to mankind.  But what will you be remembered for when you have gone? Will you fulfill the purpose(s) God had allowed you to be there? Here are some past heroes that their lives are expected to challenge us in our services to God:

JOHN WYCLIFF

  • He was the first man to translate the Bible from Greek to English language.
  • He was eventually killed for making it possible for everyone to read the Bible.
  • Some years after his death, many people surrendered their lives to Jesus because of the opportunity of reading the Bible.
  • Seeing how the Bible had changed lives, his enemies were not satisfied with his punishment of death so they went back to where he was buried, they exhumed his corpse, burnt it to ashes and the ashes were dumped inside the river.
  • The enemy could kill his body but thank God that they cannot kill his soul and all what he has done. He is still remembered till today.

JOHN WESLEY (1703-1791)

  • He travelled 250,000 miles on horseback, averaging 20 miles a day, for 40 years because of evangelism.
  • He preached 40,000 sermons.
  • He authored 400 books.
  • He learned and knew ten (10) languages because of soul winning.
  • At 83, he was annoyed that he could not write more than 15 hours a day without hurting his eyes.
  • At 86, he was ashamed he could not preached more than twice a day.
  • At 88, he complained in his daily diary that there was an increasing tendency to lie on the bed until 5.30am

ROBERT ARTHINGTON

  • A Cambridge university graduate, living in a single room and cooking his meals. However, he gave an equivalent amount of One Million Naira (N1,000,000) to foreign missions annually .
  • He said “gladly would I make the floor my bed, a box my chair and another box my table, rather than men should perish for lack of the knowledge of Christ.”

REMEMBER: Men are like days that passed away and never come to stay. But before we leave this world we should ask ourselves a question. “What will I be remembered for?” Good or bad? May His grace enable us to fight the good fight of faith- 1 Timothy 6:12 & 11 Timothy 4:7
